Today’s lessons

Like thousands of other American moms, I homeschool my children. Call me crazy, but I love watching them learn. A blog is a easy way to keep track of how our days are progressing, so I plan on journaling here the ups and downs of our homeschooling journey.

Teaching Peter to read is turning out to be more difficult than it was teaching Susan. He’s getting the letters p, q, b, d mixed up and it’s frustrating him. And when he’s upset, it makes for an unhappy mom. An unhappy mom means everyone is unhappy. So we’ll concentrate on learning to identify the troublesome letters and do the fun stuff – me reading books aloud to him. He’s only six, so we have plenty of time. It’s great to be able to stop using a book or techinque that isn’t working.

Favorite children’s books

I never miss a chance to chime in on a good meme. This one I found via Sherry of Semicolon.

3 Favorite Children’s Series

1. The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

These books sit among my “grown-up” books on my bookshelf. I could write pages about Aslan and Narnia, I so love these books.

2. The Black Stallion by Walter Farley

No other books spurred on my horse obsession when I was a child like this series.

3. Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

I’ve never been an orphan, but Anne and I have so much in common. And I’m constantly telling my children to use their imaginations.
