Ooooh, Jane Yolen! I love her work! She's written over 200 books, mostly of the picture variety, but I love her "Young Merlin" series and _The Devil's Arithmetic_ (although that one is best for teens.) Check out _Wizard Hall_ for the story of a geeky 11yo boy who discovers he's a wizard and goes off to wizard school (predating JK Rowling by at least 5 years and better written to boot!)

My 11-year old read "Shug" recently and loved it - she had all her classmates wanting to read it as well.

Nice blog, glad I found you.
