A Circle of Quiet by Madeline L’ Engle:
“Perhaps their sins of omission were less in the housewifely area than mine, but surely they had their own equivalent.”
L’ Engle – the prolific creator of fantasy worlds – suffers the same lack of homemaking zeal as I do.
Justified.
Ha.
I love her journal series. There’s some quote, I don’t think I can find it easily, but she says that her role as a mom frequently ran up against her desire to write. “Bump.” She wrote that word, bump. And that’s exactly how it feels for me. Bump. Thud. Wham. Sounds of struggle…the internal call to both, but the requirement to fulfill the calling of motherhood rising to the surface. Still, I worm my way out of the collision and find myself here at the keyboard as often as I can manage.
I just discovered your blog. Can you tell? I’ve managed to offer three comments already.
Ann, you are most welcome to comment. I’m bumping along as well. My children and my writing slam into each other daily.
