It’s called BookSwim and it works like Netflix. Yeah, I know that’s the beauty of the library, borrowing books, so you don’t have to pay for your reading habit, but my local library sadly is not the most child-friendly place. (See this post for more. I’ll not rehash it all again.)
For about $20 a month, I could avoid going to the library by walking to the mailbox. Think of the gas I would save. Think of the cash in my pocket because I forgot to take back the Barney DVD with a dollar-a-day fine. And BookSwim has a wonderful assortment of educational books for us book-crazed homeschoolers.
I so want BookSwim to be be worth the up-front cost, that I’m going to talk myself into it. Anyone in the BookSwim pool care to share a yea or nay?
Thanks for the positive words about our book rental service. Looking forward to seeing you reading with us. And remember that if there are any books you can’t find in our catalog, go ahead and request them and we’ll add them to inventory the very next day!

Hey, George, how about a free trial just like Netflix does? Then you’ll really hear me singing it’s praises.
Hm….let me know if George gives you the free trial.
I’m tired of paying late fees.
And the other day, there was a book I wanted at the library. I called it up on the library system and it was already checked out. So I clicked “Hold” and typed in my library card number and password. The message came up: “Cannot hold because patron has already checked out this material.”
I have the book. Somewhere.
How embarrassing. I’m glad it was just the computer, and not a flesh-and-blood librarian. Especially one of the librarians at this par-tic-u-lar library. I can barely get them to smile. They would not be amused that I wanted to place a hold on a book I already checked out.
Ha. Ann, that is so me.
No free trials, boo hoo, because of shipping costs. I’ll most likely do BookSwim anyway, because of the whole time issue of actually going to the library. And ’cause the librarians are scary. Sad, no?
Go ahead and sign us up. I already see several books I want to “rent”? And, I just don’t have the time to go to the library.
O, so many books, so little time! Going to check the mail will never be the same. hee hee.
I’m a little late to the party… but how’s this BookFlix deal working out? For me it would be like sneaking off to the library w/out the boys, those incurable losers of books & collectors of fines…
TeacherDad, never too late. It’s Bookswim and I love it!! Thanks for the push, I should give an update.
