Home from our first meeting in the new church – a time of worship, prayer and discussion on how to proceed for the summer. For those of you not taking notes on my life (ha. bloggy humor), my Community Bible Study class is kaput, so a group of us are meeting together once a week “to keep the fire burning.” We’re not officially a CBS, just determined Christians waiting for the Lord’s direction.
We had prayer time – and that’s the reason for this post. I wanted to add to what I shared Monday.
InterVarsity served me well. I still use that ACTS acronym when I get stuck on what to pray or to give my prayers direction and structure. Without it I tend to fling thoughts willy-nilly toward heaven, and before I know it, I’m mentally making a shopping list of things needed at the market.
A: Adoration: Start your prayer with praising the Lord. Need help? Read Psalms or use contemporary Christian music lyrics.
C: Confession: I know it’s not popular today, but their is no getting around it. We are sinners. We sin. Confess those naughties to the Lord. Read 1 John 1:9. Prayers bouncing off the ceiling? Maybe unconfessed sin is the cause.
T: Thankfullness: This is an easy one. Thank God for his blessings.
S: Supplication: Another no brainer. This is the time to pray for things you want, concerns, dreams. Mostly we (I!) tend to jump right to the S and forget all the other components of prayer. I don’t use the ACTS model every time I pray, but if you’re having a hard time with how or what to pray, this is a great place to start.
And thus endth today’s lesson in prayer. Just so you know, I’m not a thelogian. I’m just a mom with a blog. My thoughts don’t trump the Bible. Go get one, read it, see what the Lord teaches you about prayer. Don’t be afraid to ask and seek, you will find.

Thanks for posting this; the other night, I was so tired at prayer time with my girl that I blanked out after our usual Hail Mary, Guardian Angel, etc.
Then I remembered this and we got down to some praying!
Thanks!
that makes my heart glad.
Thanks. I will try the ACTS method for prayer, have heard it before, but have not yet applied.
