Facts and figures: Technorati’s State of the Blogosphere 2008

Often when I find a blog I like, it’s not only the content that lures me in, but the person behind the blog that I find interesting. I’m fascinated with the who, what, where and how of the blogosphere, so it’s no surprise that I find this document a good read. The number of men vs. women, ages, what part of the US blogs more – all those questions answered for me.

You may follow this link to read the report in it’s entirety. It’s quite lengthy, so get your bookmark at the ready. I did pull one screen shot of particular interest to me.

They have me pegged. I’m a female blogger in the majority age bracket with a personal blog.

Anyone else out there find this good info or am I completely a geek that needs to get a life?

Wait. Don’t answer that.

A blogroll with rotating links (who wants to be on my blogroll?)

Okay, friends, I’m ready to put a blogroll back on my front page. Who wants in?

For a while I’ve had a modest list on a separate page, but I was never quite happy with that. Too out-of-sight, out-of-mind. Too much like banishment. I like the idea of a blogroll, and I always check out blogrolls when I visit a new blog, but I don’t care for the long list that most blogrolls become. (Gee, how many times can I say blogroll in one sentence??) Quite simply – I find them overwhelming. Who takes the time to weed through a blogroll the size of the Mississippi River?

Enter the Better Blogroll widget. Check it out – every time you refresh the page, new blogs are listed. Scanable content, baby. Sweet. With a shorter list, It’s easy to find new blogs and click through.

So, who wants to trade links? Drop a comment and I’ll add you. You can see my pretty new blogroll at the bottom right corner of this page. I’ve labeled it community, because to me that’s what a good blogroll is – a fellowship of kindred spirits that enjoy reading and discussing what we share via writings, videos and pictures.

On my nightstand: September 2008

For enjoyment:

So Brave, Young and Handsome by Leif Enger

The Fruit of My Lipstick by Shelley Adina (This young adult novel magically appeared in my mail. Did I sign on for a book tour?)

For learning:

The Lolita Effect (The Media Sexualization of Young Girls and What We Can Do about It) by M. Gigi Durham, Ph.D.

For faith:

I never finished Velvet Elvis by Rob Bell, so I’m re-reading it before I read his current book, Jesus Wants to Save Christians: A Manifesto of a Church in Exile.

I almost picked up a copy of The Shack yesterday, but decided against it. Reading about (detailed? grotesque?) violence against a child is too heartwrenching, even if fiction. I am curious about what the fuss is all about though. Maybe I’ll read it with one eye shut.
