Somehow I’ve managed to get myself on the right (or wrong?) mailing list, because every now and then, I get these tempting brochures from New York University.
Oh. My.
Delicious.
Not that it’s going to happen. I’m over an hour from The City and there are way more important things we need to spend our money on, like the house mortgage, and the Kitchen Construction. And this home schooling commitment is rather time consuming, so I have no free time for the luxury of bonus education right now.
Even so. When these glossy cards find their way onto my kitchen table, mixed in with bills, home school supply catalogs and magazines, I wonder…
What would it be like to be a student again? What would I study if given the chance?
How about you, Mom-reader?
Do you dream of continuing your education?

I definitely dream of improving my craft. A summer intensive program could be a great way to do so, especially if staffed with outstanding instructors. Looks great! If it aligns with and/or complements the rest of your life plans (which by association take into account your entire family’s), I think you should do it!

A college near me offers a Ph.D. in aesthetics. How perfect! I could pick and choose–creative writing, music, whatever I want.
But am I ready for all those papers?
Not so much. I’ll stick to my individual “classes” (a.k.a. books) for now.

Ann, my attending any on campus program right now would be a family trauma. That’s why this is all in fantasy stage.
Heather, I was hoping you would comment. That program sounds wonderful, just right for you with so many gifts. If you are on the fence, let me push you off to the side of GO… before kids. The books and babies can be mixed, but it’s not easy. I’d love to live vicariously through your Ph.D.
