You lost IT all.
And by IT, I mean everything you physically hold dear. Your house, your car, laptop, clothes, all you have in your closet, attic or squirreled away under your bed. All those books you’ve collected, treasuring for years, keeping to re-read someday and pass onto grown children – gone, lost, never to be replaced. What about all the photos, scrapbooks and journals? What if they were gone too?
How would it change you?

Initially, I would be devastated. Of course I would miss some of it, but the only thing that would truly upset me would be to lose my Bible, photos, and cameras.
Once the shock of it all settled, if our basic needs were met for my family, I think that it would significantly simplify my life. I would probably breathe better, have greater focus, and a better perspective on life.
Not that I want all my stuff to just be gone in such a manner, but I do want to shed my life of its periphery. That, however, is a very hard thing to do. Sometimes I’m totally motivated to do so, and other times I just can’t. And motivation doesn’t always align with time and opportunity.

For me, it’s impossible to answer that question. I just have no idea. When “bad things” have happened to me in the past (although nothing NEAR the scenario you give), I’ve risen to the challenge. But it’s just so hard to say how losing everything would change me.
