Wonderful post Monica, way to nurture your reader mama! So happy for your daughter... nothing like good fiction! LOL Thank you for sharing and leaving a comment @ my post over on ChristianUnschooling.com. It truly is such a joy to see the door to a whole new world opening up for our children, as they discover reading!

What an encourging change to watch happen!!

My kids (younger) love flipping through books. But when my oldest started reading it took her a long time to make the transition to start to READ the books and not just flip through them to figure out the story using the pictures:)

As a new homeschooler, I was a little worried that in teaching reading I missed something... and I guess for this little girl I did. One day during reading time I sat net to her on the couch and asked her to read to me. And sure enough she started reading the words (not just the pictures). I had to tend to a younger sibling and she was disappointed that she "couldn't finish the story" and I asked the question "why". Somehow she thought reading stopped when the audience went away, She stayed on the couch another 30 minutes reading to herself... great for a 5 yr old!! And she's been reading words ever since.

It's just soo cool to see:)
