This is mostly to keep up with Ann.Thanks, sister, for spurring me on to keep up with this exercise even when I’m feeling lazy.
Reading: Just finished Radical by David Platt. I read a lot of books that call the Church to a better, more zealous way to be followers of Christ. Radical is by far the most heavy hitting of them all.
I want to be a radical follower of Jesus. I am an American.
*sigh*
I’m convinced the biggest hindrance to my walk with the Lord is my American-ness.
Did you read Radical? What are your thoughts?
Learning: I volunteered to help at the Type-A Parent Conference, so this was a week of learning blogging and website building that I plan to apply to thecoffeecouple.net. (Feel free to ask me any questions about volunteering at Type-A, an experience I highly recommend.)
Playing: My zombies are neglected; haven’t played since. . . can’t remember. Oh, fickle farmer am I!
Mostly my playing involved exploring Asheville, North Carolina, the location of the Type-A conference. Asheville is a decent-sized city (lots to do within walking distance) with many restaurants and shops. The sport of People Watching is superb. Picture me with no kids in tow – I explored to my heart’s content.
Reacting: A mix of Radical thoughts, finding a few homeless young people on the streets of Asheville and absorbing so much about blogging in a short period of time – my head and heart are full. Still need to sort a lot of it out, but I wanted to at least mention all these things, even if only to briefly bookmark here.
I didn’t bring my laptop, and I didn’t write in my notebook, so it’s all feeling a bit much right now.

I read David Platt’s Radical last year. I was convicted of my Americaness too and have since began ridding myself of many material possessions. I am beginning to feel much “lighter” both spiritually and personally. Monica, it was a nice visiting with you, if only for a bit, at Type A.

Oh girl, I have often felt that being an American gets in the way of being a radical Christian. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people think being a good patriot equals being a good Christian.
It was awesome to see you again at Type-A. Let’s definitely make it annual tradition, okay? Hugs!
