Hey, there. You found my blog.

Life

I’m a mom. I’m a wife. Most importantly, I’m a believer in a radical God, made flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. I write about all of that here. Sometimes I write about stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with any of that. Go figure.

I goof at the computer far too much than I should. I homeschool my kids. I unschool my kids. My kids unschool me. Life is more important and interesting than grade levels, report cards, text books, tests and jumping through somebody else’s hoops. I just want to jump in the car to drive down a road, get lost, find the way, discover new places, go, see and tell other people about all those neat places I find along the way.

Me

I won’t sit still – I can’t – my kids won’t let me. They make me laugh, cry, giggle, try new things. Yeah, they can drive me nuts. I’d be willing to bet we drive each other crazy. I’ve given birth four times. Each time I’ve been even more convinced in the existence of God and, like WOW!, is He way cool and creative.

You should know I probably would’ve really named my kids Susan, Peter, Edmund and Lucy if I had known that I would end up with two boys and two girls. (I did consider naming one of my boys Lewis, except I didn’t care much for Lew as a nickname.) Maybe someday I’ll reveal the real names of my kids, but until then you can follow my lead and refer to them as the characters in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I’m me, Monica Brand. I’m funny, serious, lazy, red-haired with a touch of gray, scattered brained with an Irish temper. I’m far from perfect; I’ve still much to learn.

More than you need to know

I love to travel, living out of a suitcase is my idea of a good time. I’ve been to England, Scotland, a tiny scrap of France, Caracas, Venezuela. I once taught English in Makassar, Indonesia. The stories I could tell!

Still reading?

Cool beans. Let’s be friends.

I bet your kids have a blast having you as their teacher. Keep up the good work. I love meeting other people who are not afraid to share their belief in Jesus.
