Picture of an old friend

I’m writing this via my iPhone.

My laptop died six days ago. Today I finally had an inspiration to write here.

Writing, and blogging, by my highly intelligent smartphone is do-able. I guess. I don’t think I can embed links. I could copy and paste, but make it look pretty . . .?

This is no-frills blogging at it’s best.

Happily my lack of laptop hasn’t stopped my Internet social life.

If my mobile was to die or be lost or stolen, then the withdrawal symptoms wouldn’t be pretty.

I took this picture of my desk right before the laptop died. I took it because I wanted to remember the late summer, afternoon light on the wall, the chaos of papers, the VBS craft that will someday be lost to time.

But I may have captured the final moments of an object that feels like an old friend.

King of Boredom

Polo match
Not a bad shot for using my iPhone, eh?

In case you can’t tell by the picture, this is a polo match. With horses and clubs and a white ball that riders whack with said club while galloping at a pretty good clip.

I want to learn how to play polo.

Of course, I don’t have the polo pony to go along with this desire. That could be a problem with learning to play. Or at least, playing on a team. No matter. I’m not getting a horse anytime soon.

Stupid economy.

So, as you can probably guess, I went to a polo match. Me with my “Horses are wonderful! Isn’t this exciting! Let’s stomp divots!” enthusiasm. I had a great time. Doc seemed to like it too.

The kids? Maybe I shouldn’t talk about them. They were less than thrilled. Which might be good in the long run because if one of my kids got the horse-obsessed bug, I’d be bummed to tell him or her no to horse ownership. Pity it’s so expensive, these glorious animals.

I wish I had a picture of the worst of the four. The chief complainer, the boy child named for a particular Biblical king. He was King of Boredom yesterday.

Poor boy. O, to be nine and away from a computer screen! O, to be subjected to what your mother says is the Sport of Kings.

Don’t make me watch another polo match ever again, Mom! It’s so boring.

Heh.

Doc and I plotting and scheming our next visit with a proper tailgate meal. A picnic worthy of polo – not a favorite sport for one named for a king.

What I pray everyday

reflection

Nothing fancy, but it’s heartfelt.

Simple.

Honest.

And I think He’s listening, because it seems to be working.

Lord, give me a task that no one else can do.

Then when those instances come, what I might think is a nuisance or an interruption to normal life, I’m more apt to respond with a YES, because I’m getting what I asked Him to give me.

Something only I can do.

Me . . . Monica, a homeschooling mom with a desire beyond the walls of my home, to change the world – or at least a desire for making an impact in the lives of others, to be on the front lines in the battle.

These are only first thoughts on this subject: I have a feeling I’ll be writing a lot more on this simple prayer. I need a way to look back to see how far the Lord takes me on this.
